Colombia: Industrial production accelerates in February

April 26, 2012

In February, industrial production (excluding coffee threshing) expanded 4.5% over the same month last year. The reading was up from the 1.9% rise observed in January (previously reported: +2.4% year-on-year) and slightly overshot market expectations of a 4.3% increase. The monthly figure reflected increases in 24 out of the 48 sub-sectors composing the index, with production of metal and steel, clothing items as well as of non-metallic minerals recording the largest gains. A month-on-month analysis corroborates the expansion seen in the annual figures, as industrial production jumped 6.08% over the previous month, which contrasted the 9.47% decline recorded in January. Moreover, the trend stabilised in February, with annual average variation in industrial production remaining unchanged at January
