Colombia: Growth in industrial production accelerates in December

February 17, 2017

In December, industrial production rose 2.2% annually, up from November’s revised 1.8% increase (previously reported: +1.6% year-on-year). According to DANE, December’s reading reflected increases in 21 out of the 39 components of the industrial production index. The coking and oil refining category largely drove December’s acceleration. Conversely, the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products category was the largest drag on industrial production growth in December.

Despite December’s faster year-on-year expansion, annual average growth in industrial production fell from 3.7% in November to 3.5% in December.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect industrial production to expand 5.4% in 2017, which is down 0.6 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects industrial production to increase 3.4%.
