Colombia: Consumer confidence moderates further in January

February 13, 2015

The Fedesarrollo consumer sentiment index dropped from 22.4 points in December to 17.9 points in January. Despite the fall, the index remained well above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

The moderation reflected setbacks in all of the five sub-components that comprise the index. Consumers were more pessimistic regarding both their future personal economic situations and the general economic climate.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect total consumption to expand 3.8% in 2015, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects total consumption to increase 3.5%.
