Colombia: Consumer confidence moderates but remains robust in December

January 19, 2015

The Fedesarrollo consumer sentiment index dropped from 24.7 points in November to 22.4 points in December. The index is now slightly closer to the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

The moderation reflected slight setbacks in most of the sub-components that comprise the index. Consumers were more pessimistic particularly regarding their future personal economic situations and the general economic climate.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect total consumption to expand 4.1% in 2015, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects total consumption to increase 4.0%.
