Colombia: Consumer confidence falls for a fifth consecutive month in January

February 11, 2011

In January, the Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment marked a slight drop from 16.7 points in December and settled at 16.3 points. The fall in consumer confidence continued a downward trend that began in August 2010, when consumer confidence had reached a ten-year high. Despite declining optimism among consumers, the index remains above the 0-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. According to Fedesarrollo, the correlation between the consumer sentiment index and household consumption is 0.6.
