Colombia: Consumer confidence falls but remains at healthy levels
November 4, 2010
Consumer sentiment dropped in September, after climbing to the highest level in nearly a decade in the previous month. The Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment fell from 38.8 points in August to 35.4 points in September. Despite the drop, the index of consumer confidence remains well above the 0-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. The deterioration in consumer sentiment was broad-based, as both major components of the index ?economic conditions and consumer expectations ? fell over the previous month. That said, the deterioration in consumer confidence was led by the worsening in the index of consumer expectations, which declined from 48.8 points in August to 44.4 points in September. Simultaneously, the consumer expectations index dropped from 23.8 points in August to 22.0 points in September.
