Colombia: Consumer confidence continues upward trajectory in November

The Fedesarrollo consumer sentiment index rose from 21.6 points in October to 24.7 points in November, reaching the highest point since July. As a result, the index moved further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

The monthly increase reflected an improvement in almost all of the sub-components that comprise the index. Consumers were particularly more optimistic regarding their future personal economic situations and the general economic climate. Consumers’ willingness to purchase large-ticket items was the only category that decreased compared to October.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect total consumption to expand 4.3% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects total consumption to increase 4.2%.
