China: Retail sales moderate in October

In October, nominal retail sales grew 10.0% year-on-year, below the 10.3% rise in September and the 10.5% expansion that market analysts had expected. October’s higher print compared to September mostly reflected weaker retail sales growth in cars and oil and oil-related products.

Retail sales expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.74% in October compared to the previous month, down from September’s 0.89% increase. Annual average growth in retail sales was stable at September’s 10.4% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect retail sales to increase 10.2% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2019, the panel foresees retail sales expanding 9.9%.
