China: Growth in investment picks up in the January-February period
March 12, 2016
In the first two months of the year, urban fixed-asset investment (FAI), excluding rural households, expanded 10.2%. The reading came in above the 10.0% increase registered in the full year 2015. Also, the print overshot the 9.3% rise the markets had expected.
The slightly stronger pace of growth observed at the outset of the year reflected an acceleration in investment in the primary and services sectors, while investment in the industry sector decelerated further. The closely-watched real estate development indicator accelerated in the first two months of the year, with the reading jumping to a six-month high.
A month-on-month comparison shows that investment in urban fixed assets rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.83% in February, which was up from the 0.79% increase tallied in January.
