China: Industrial production accelerates in June

July 17, 2017

In June, industrial production expanded 7.6% over the same month last year, above the 6.5% rise in May. June’s print, which overshoot the 6.5% rise that market analysts had expected, reflected faster growth in manufacturing output and in electricity, gas and water supply. Conversely, the mining subcomponent contracted in June.

On a monthly basis, industrial production expanded 0.81% in seasonally-adjusted terms in June, up from May’s 0.57% increase. The trend now is pointing upward, with the annual average growth in industrial production rising from 6.3% in May to 6.5% in June.

For 2017, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to grow 6.3%, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2018, the panel sees industrial production growth falling to 5.6%.
