Chile: Inflation accelerates in December

Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.34% in December over the previous month, swinging from the 0.13% dip seen in November. Looking at the details of the release, prices for clothing and footwear and household maintenance and equipment grew the most.

Inflation accelerated to 3.0% in December from 2.7% in November. Annual average inflation inched down to 3.0% from November’s 3.1%. Lastly, core inflation climbed from 2.4% in November to 2.6% in December, marking the highest reading in close to one year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end 2021 at 2.8%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. The panel sees inflation ending 2022 at 2.9%.
