Chile: Growth in economic activity inches up in April
June 5, 2015
In April, economic activity rose 1.7% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator for economic activity (IMACEC). The figure was slightly above the 1.6% expansion tallied in March but came in below market expectations of a 2.2% expansion. According to the Central Bank, the result mainly reflected an increase in services, which was partly offset by a drop in wholesale trade.
On a monthly basis, economic activity in April recorded flat growth on a seasonally-adjusted basis, which came in above the 0.5% decrease posted in the previous month. Annual average growth in economic activity in April remained unchanged at March’s 1.8%.
