Chile: Consumer confidence improves slightly in April

May 7, 2012

In April, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, Indice de Percepcion de la Economia) edged up to 46.5 points from 46.2 points in March. Despite the monthly increase, consumer sentiment remains below the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. The result was driven by an improvement in both the current outlook as well as perceptions regarding the national outlook in the next 12 months. That said, respondents' assessment of their households' current economic situation remained unchanged, whereas their willingness to make major purchases improved somewhat.
