Chile: Consumer confidence improves in February
March 7, 2012
In February, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, indice de Percepcion de la Economia), rose to 49.6 points from the 48.7 points observed in January, reaching the highest level seen since January 2011. With the monthly increase, consumer sentiment moved closer to the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. The increase was driven by an improvement in most sub-components, especially in the long-term outlook. In addition, respondents to the survey reported higher willingness to make major purchases. Strengthening consumer confidence bodes well for private consumption in the near term.
