Chile Business Confidence October 2017

Chile: Business confidence rises again in October

November 3, 2017

The business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by ICARE and the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez increased from 48.3 points in September to 49.0 points in October, marking the third consecutive monthly improvement and coinciding with a raft of other indicators which paint an encouraging economic picture. However, the reading was still below the 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism, as has been the case since April 2014.

October’s increase came on the back of improving sentiment in three of the four sectors included in the index. The commercial, construction and industry sectors reported a more positive outlook, while the mining sector grew slightly less optimistic, although the latter sub-index remained well above the 50-point threshold.

Panelists surveyed for last month’s LatinFocus report expected fixed investment to expand 3.1% in 2018 and 3.3% in 2019.
