Chile: Business confidence reaches a six-month high in March

April 7, 2014

In March, the business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by Icare and the Universidad Adolfo Ibañez inched up from 51.1 points in February to 51.9 points, which marked the highest level in six months. Following the March increase, confidence remains above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. March's figure was driven by an improvement in the construction and mining sectors, while industry and trade recorded a deterioration over the previous month. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed private investment to grow 4.0% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month's estimate. In 2015, the panel expects private investment to increase 6.1%.
