Chile Business Confidence August 2022

Chile: Business confidence improves but remains pessimistic in August

September 1, 2022

Business confidence rose to 40.5 in August from July's 39.0. Despite the uptick, the index remained below the 50-point threshold, indicating pessimism among businesses.

August's rise was driven by improving sentiment in the volatile mining sector. In contrast, sentiment in the retail, construction and industrial sectors worsened.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report project a 1.0% drop in fixed investment in 2022, which is down 0.6 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, they project fixed investment to fall 1.6%.
