Chile: Business confidence improves

February 5, 2013

In January, the business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by Icare and the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez inched up to 58.5 points from 58.2 points in December. At the current level, the index remains above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

The monthly rise was driven by improvements in the commerce and industrial sectors. On the other hand, both mining and industry, albeit optimistic, deteriorated over the previous month.
