Chile: Business confidence falls deeper into pessimistic territory in July

August 5, 2015

The business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by ICARE and the Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, fell from 47.1 points in June to 42.6 points in July, which marked a five-month low. As a consequence, the index fell further below the 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism.

July’s decrease reflected deteriorations in all sectors of the economy, with confidence in the trade and construction sectors recording the sharpest falls.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 0.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2016, the panel expects private investment to increase 3.3%.
