Chile: Business confidence deteriorates to over six-year low in August

September 7, 2015

The business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by ICARE and the Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, fell from 42.6 points in July to 39.7 points in August, which marked the lowest reading since March 2009. As a consequence, the index fell further below the 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism.

August’s deterioration reflected setbacks in all sectors of the economy. The steepest drop was recorded in the mining sector.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 0.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2016, the panel expects private investment to increase 3.3%.
