Canada: Manufacturing PMI gains traction in February hitting a one-year high
In February, the IHS Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) increased to 51.8 from 50.6 in January. February’s PMI reading posted the highest reading since February 2019, and consequently remained above the neutral 50-threshold, signaling an improvement in manufacturing operating conditions from the previous month.
February’s outturn reflected stronger expansions in output and new orders, as well as, a modest rise in headcounts. Moreover, new export orders also increased in February, while firms’ sentiment regarding future output growth remained upbeat. On the price front, both input and output prices increased in the month.
