Canada: Inflation moderates to a 18-month low in March

April 11, 2012

In March, consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.2% over the previous month, which was a notch above the 0.1% rise seen in February. The monthly price rise mainly reflected higher prices for the transportation as well for the recreation, education and reading categories. Annual headline inflation slowed from 2.6% in February to 1.9% in March, which came in an inch below market expectations of a 2.0% increase. As a result, inflation reached its lowest level since September 2010 and remains within the Central Bank's 2.0%
