Canada: Housing prices pick up in January

The Teranet-National Bank National Composite House Price index rose 0.2% in January over the previous month. The result contrasted December’s 0.2% decrease. The countrywide index increased to 167.4 points in January from December’s 167.2 points.
Regarding regional developments, housing prices increased in 5 of the 11 metropolitan markets surveyed, with the largest increases recorded in Vancouver and Victoria. On an annual basis, house prices rose 4.7% in January, which was below December’s 4.9% gain and marked the slowest increase in seven months.
