Canada: House prices continue to increase in May

The Teranet-National Bank National Composite House Price index increased 0.8% over the previous month in May, which slightly exceeded April’s 0.5% monthly gain. May’s figure represented the fifth smallest monthly increase in the history of the index. However, the countrywide index increased to a record high of 162.5 points.

Regarding regional developments, 7 of the 11 metropolitan markets surveyed registered increases in housing prices. On an annual basis, house prices rose 4.6% in May, which was slightly down from April’s 4.9% expansion.
