Bulgaria: Inflation remains steady in May
June 12, 2012
In May, consumer prices fell 0.1% over the previous month, which contrasted the 0.2% increase recorded in April. The monthly reading reflected lower prices for housing and utilities as well as for transport, which were only partially offset by higher food prices. Despite the monthly drop, annual inflation remained steady at 1.7% for a third consecutive month, which marks the lowest level since June 2010, but overshot market expectations that had inflation inching down to 1.6%. Meanwhile, annual average inflation moderated from 3.2% in April to 2.9% in May.
