Bulgaria: Inflation picks up in March

Consumer prices dropped 0.3% in March from the previous month, contrasting the 0.3% increase recorded in February. According to the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria, the increase reflected lower prices in six out of the twelve categories that make up the index; prices were unchanged in one category and increased in the remaining five. Food and non-alcoholic beverages; clothing and footwear; and recreation and culture were among the categories that recorded the steepest price drops.
Inflation increased from 2.0% in February to 2.2% in March. Lastly, average inflation inched up from 2.1% in February to 2.2% in March.
Bulgaria Inflation Forecast
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to close 2018 at 2.1%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2019, panelists expect inflation of 2.5%.
