Bulgaria: Inflation hits highest rate in over three years

Consumer prices fell 0.5% in March compared to the previous month, which contrasted February’s flat print. According to the National Statistical Institute, the contraction was broad-based as 9 out of 12 categories that make up the index registered a decline in March.

On an annual basis, inflation came in at 1.9% in March (February: +1.7% year-on-year), which marked the highest reading since July 2013. The annual average variation in consumer prices increased from minus 0.5% in February to minus 0.2% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect consumer prices to fall by 1.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2018, panelists expect inflation of 2.1%.
