March 14, 2017
Consumer prices jumped 1.3% in February compared to the previous month, following January’s 0.6% increase. According to the National Statistical Institute, February’s reading was mainly driven by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for housing.
On an annual basis, inflation came in at 1.7% in February (January: +1.4% year-on-year), which marked the highest reading since June 2013. The annual average variation in consumer prices edged up from minus 0.7% in January to minus 0.5% in February.
