Bulgaria: Inflation hits an almost two-year high in April

In April, consumer prices rose 0.68% over the previous month, which was above March’s 0.39% increase. According to the National Statistical Institute, increases in consumer prices were recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. In addition, prices for clothing and footwear increased.

Inflation rose from 0.1% in March to 0.5% in April, which marked the highest rate since July 2013. As a result, annual average consumer prices fell 0.8%, which was slightly above March’s 0.9% drop.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation at 0.2% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2016, panelists expect inflation to be 1.5%.
