Bulgaria: Inflation accelerates in April on higher non-food prices

Consumer prices in Bulgaria increased 0.7% from the previous month in April, contrasting last month’s 0.5% decrease. According to the National Statistical Institute, the rise in prices was broad-based as 8 out of 12 categories that make up the index registered an increase in April. Clothing and footwear, and recreation and culture registered the greatest increase in prices.
On an annual basis, inflation came in at 2.6% in April (March: 1.9%), which marked the highest reading since June 2013. The annual average variation in consumer prices swung from minus 0.2% in March to plus 0.2% in April.
