Bulgaria: Decrease in consumer prices softens in September

In September, consumer prices fell 0.16% over the previous month, which followed the 0.25% decrease tallied in August. According to the National Statistical Institute, the decrease was mainly driven by lower prices for clothing and footwear as well as for furnishings and household equipment.

Consumer prices in September fell 0.8% over the same month last year (August: -0.6% year-on-year). September’s figure marked the 14th consecutive drop in consumer prices. Annual average inflation edged up from August’s minus 1.7% to minus 1.6% in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation ending 2014 at 0.0%, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2015, panelists expect inflation to be 1.6%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast..
