Bulgaria: Consumer prices record first annual increase since July 2013

In March, consumer prices rose 0.39% over the previous month, which was above February’s 0.18% increase. According to the National Statistical Institute, increases in consumer prices were recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. In addition, prices for transportation as well as housing, water, electricity and gas registered increases.

Consumer prices rose 0.1% year-on-year in March (February: -0.5% yoy). March’s figure marked the first increase in consumer prices since July 2013. Annual average consumer prices fell 0.9%, which was slightly less than February’s 1.1% drop.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation at 0.2% in 2015, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2016, panelists expect inflation to be 1.5%.
