Bulgaria: Consumer prices in March drop notably on an annual basis

In March, consumer prices fell 0.7% over the previous month, which was down from February’s 0.3% decline. According to the National Statistical Institute, the reading was the result of decreases across most categories, with the largest drops registered in communications and transport.

On an annual basis, consumer prices fell 1.5% in March, which was a notably bigger drop than the 0.5% decrease recorded in February and marked the fastest year-on-year drop since June 2014. Meanwhile, annual average consumer prices in March were slightly lower than in February, inching down from zero to minus 0.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation at 0.6% in 2016, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2017, panelists expect inflation of 1.7%.
