Bulgaria: Consumer prices fall in January

In January, consumer prices fell 0.40% over the previous month, which was below December’s zero growth. According to the National Statistical Institute, decreases in consumer prices were recorded in clothing and footwear, as well as in furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house. In contrast, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased compared to the previous month.

Annual consumer prices fell 1.0% in January (December: -0.9% year-on-year). January’s figure marked the 18th consecutive drop in annual consumer prices. Annual average consumer prices fell 1.3%, which was slightly less than December’s 1.4% drop.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation flat in 2015, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2016, panelists expect inflation to be 1.6%.
