Bulgaria: Consumer prices fall annually for tenth consecutive month in November

Bulgarian consumer prices were flat in November compared to the previous month, contrasting the 0.2% increase registered in October. According to the National Statistical Institute, the price of clothing and footwear, recreation and culture and restaurants and hotels rose in November compared to October, while the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport and communications fell. The price of housing and utilities, alcohol and tobacco and health remained constant compared to the prior month.

On an annual basis, consumer prices fell 0.5% in November, slightly above October’s 0.6% decline. Consumer prices have been falling uninterruptedly since February 2016. Meanwhile, the annual average variation in consumer prices remained unchanged at minus 0.8% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect consumer prices to fall by 0.1% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2017, panelists expect inflation of 1.5%, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
