Bulgaria: Growth in industrial production decelerates in January

In January, industrial production rose 3.0% over the same month last year in working-day adjusted terms, which was below December’s 3.5% increase. January’s reading reflected an increase in mining and quarrying as well as faster growth in manufacturing output. Conversely, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply decreased in December.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.8% in January, which was below the 1.5% rise recorded in the previous month. Annual average growth in industrial production reached 3.0% in January (December: +2.9%), which represents the highest reading since February 2012.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production expanding 3.0% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2017, panelists see industrial output growing 3.2%.
