Brazil Business Confidence September 2019

Brazil: Business confidence rises in September

September 30, 2019

Business sentiment in Brazil’s industrial sector improved in September, following a slight deterioration in August. The Getulio Vargas Foundation’s (FGV, Fundaçao Getúlio Vargas) industrial business confidence index rose to 94.0 points in September, from July’s 92.3 points. The index, however, remained below the 100-point threshold and signaling prevailing pessimism among Brazilian companies.

According to the FGV, the improvement was chiefly driven by firms’ markedly less pessimistic assessment of future economic situations. On top of that, companies were slightly less pessimistic regarding the current economic situation.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see fixed investment rising 1.5% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2020, panelists expect fixed investment to grow 4.4%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
