Brazil: Business confidence rebounds in July

July 27, 2017

Business sentiment rose in July, recovering some of the ground lost in June. The Getulio Vargas Foundation’s (FGV, Fundaçao Getúlio Vargas) business confidence index increased a seasonally-adjusted 1.5% from the previous month, rising to 90.8 points from June’s 89.5 points. The index still remains below the 100-point threshold that signals that businesses are more pessimistic than optimistic.

According to FGV, the result came as firms grew less pessimistic for the current and future economic situation.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see fixed investment falling 0.6% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect fixed investment to grow 4.7%.
