Brazil Business Confidence March 2016

Brazil: Business confidence improves slightly in March

March 31, 2016

Business sentiment improved in March, according to the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV, Fundaçao Getulio Vargas) business confidence indicator. The index increased a seasonally adjusted 0.5% over the previous month, rising from February’s 74.7 points to 75.1 points. February’s result had marked the lowest reading in five months. Despite the rise, the index remains far below the 100-point threshold and signals that businesses are more pessimistic than optimistic.

According to FGV, firms were less pessimistic in March regarding the current economic situations. However, firms were more pessimistic regarding the future economic situation.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see fixed investment falling 11.0% in 2016, which is down 2.0 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect fixed investment to grow 0.9%.
