Brazil Business Confidence August 2017

Brazil: Business confidence improves in August

August 29, 2017

Business sentiment rose month-on-month in August as it continues its recovery from the lows of mid-2015. The Getulio Vargas Foundation’s (FGV, Fundaçao Getúlio Vargas) business confidence index increased a seasonally-adjusted 1.5% from the previous month, rising to 92.2 points from 90.8 points in July. Nevertheless, the index remains below the 100-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among businesses.

According to FGV, the rise was driven by decreased pessimism reported by businesses regarding both their current and future economic situations.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report see fixed investment falling 0.9% in 2017, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists expect fixed investment to grow 4.6%.
