Belgium: Industrial production rises in December

February 24, 2017

Industrial production in December increased a seasonally adjusted 4.1% from the previous month, the fastest rise since January 2016 and up from the revised 0.9% increase recorded in November (previously reported: +1.0% month-on-month). The rise was mainly driven by an expansion in the manufacturing sub-sector, while the mining and quarrying and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sub-sectors declined compared to November.

In annual terms, industrial production jumped 9.8% in December, up from November’s revised 1.3% rise (previously reported: +1.4% year-on-year). Meanwhile, annual average growth rose from 3.7% in November to 4.5% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 2.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial production growth slowing to 1.4%.
