In May, industrial production rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.4% over the previous month. The reading contrasted the revised 0.8% contraction (previously reported: -1.3% month-on-month) registered in April. May’s result reflected an improvement in manufacturing as well as in mining and quarrying.

In year-on-year terms, industrial production fell to a 4.0% contraction in May from a 0.6% drop in April. As a result, annual average growth in industrial output ticked down from minus 0.3% in April to minus 0.7% in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that industrial output will expand 1.4% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees industrial production picking up to a 2.5% increase.
