Belgium: Industrial production rebounds in April

June 23, 2017

A month-on-month comparison shows that industrial production increased a seasonally adjusted 0.3% in April, contrasting March’s 1.5% drop. The increase was driven by increased output in the manufacturing and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sub-sectors, which offset decreased output in the mining and quarrying sub-sector.

Industrial production plummeted 4.5% in April in a year-on-year comparison, contrasting March’s 5.8% increase in production output. Subsequently, annual average growth in industrial production decreased from 4.4% in March to 3.6% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 2.4% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial production growth slowing slightly to 2.2%.
