Belgium Industrial production September 2016

Belgium: Industrial production falls in September

November 30, 2016

In September, industrial production fell a seasonally-adjusted 1.0% from the previous month, worsening from the 0.7% decrease registered in August to hit a four-month low. The decrease was mainly driven by a drop in the manufacturing sector and a sharp deceleration in mining activity.

In annual terms, industrial production expanded 3.8% in September, coming in far below the 10.4% rise recorded in August. Meanwhile, annual average growth edged up from 4.0% in August to an over five-year high of 4.3% in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees industrial production growth slowing to 2.4%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
