Belgium: Industrial production contracts in August

In month-on-month terms, industrial production declined a seasonally-adjusted 0.6% in August, contrasting the 2.6% increase in July. The drop reflects a contraction in almost all components, including mining and quarrying, manufacturing and construction.

In annual terms, industrial production rose 4.4% in August, coming in above the 4.1% expansion observed in July. Despite the yearly increase, annual average growth in industrial production moderated from 3.5% in July to 3.0% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 2.7% in 2018, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2019, the panel sees industrial production growth moderating to 2.3%.
