Belgium: Economy accelerates in Q4

According to a flash estimate released by the Bank of Belgium (NBB) on 29 January, GDP grew 0.5% in quarterly terms in Q4, which was an acceleration from Q3’s revised 0.2% expansion (previously reported: +0.3% quarter-on-quarter). In annual terms, GDP grew 1.9% in Q4, accelerating from Q3’s 1.6% expansion.

For the year 2017, economic growth reached 1.7%, an acceleration from 2016’s 1.5% expansion.

More detailed information on Q4’s economic performance will be released on 28 February.

Belgium GDP Forecast

The National Bank of Belgium expects the economy to grow 1.6% in 2018 and 1.5% in 2019. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists also expect the economy to expand 1.6% in 2018, unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2019 the panel also foresees growth of 1.5%.
