Belgium: Economic growth steady in Q2

According to a preliminary estimate released by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) on 31 July, GDP in Q2 expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.4% over the previous quarter. The result matched Q1’s expansion.

Compared to the same period last year, GDP growth accelerated from 1.0% in Q1 to 1.3% in Q2, which marked the largest growth rate since Q3 2011. More detailed data will be published on 31 August.

The Federal Planning Bureau (FPB) expects the economy to increase 1.5% in 2015. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 1.3% in 2015, which is unchanged over the previous month’s Consensus. For 2016, the panel expects economic growth to pick up to 1.6%.
