Belgium: Economic growth picks up steam in the second quarter

According to a preliminary estimate released by the National Bank of Belgium on 29 July, GDP in Q2 expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.5% over the previous quarter. Q2’s reading marks a stronger expansion than the 0.2% increase tallied in Q1.

Compared to the same period of last year, GDP growth tallied 1.4%, mirroring the reading tallied in Q1. More detailed data will be published on 31 August.

The National Bank of Belgium expects the economy to increase 1.3% in 2016 and 1.6% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 1.3% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s Consensus. For 2017, the panel also expects economic growth of 1.3%.
