Belgium: Economic growth picks up in Q4

According to a preliminary estimate released by the National Bank of Belgium on 29 January, GDP in Q4 expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.3% over the previous quarter. Q4’s reading marks a marginal acceleration from the 0.2% tallied in Q3.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, GDP growth tallied 1.3% (Q3: 1.3% year-on-year). More detailed data will be published on 29 February.

The National Bank of Belgium expects the economy to increase 1.3% in 2016 and 1.6% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 1.5% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s Consensus. For 2017, the panel also expects economic growth of 1.5%.
