Belgium: Economic growth improves slightly in Q3

According to a preliminary estimate released by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) on 29 October, GDP expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.2% over the previous quarter in Q3. The result came in slightly above the 0.1% expansion registered in Q2 and marked the sixth consecutive quarter of positive growth.

Compared to the same period last year, GDP growth decelerated from 1.0% in Q2 to 0.8% in Q3. Detailed data will be published on 28 November.

The Federal Planning Bureau (FPB) expects the economy to increase 1.1% in 2014. For 2015, the FPB sees economic growth picking up to 1.5%. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 1.1% in 2014, which is unchanged over the previous month’s Consensus. For 2015, the panel expects economic growth to pick up to 1.4%, which is from last month’s projection.
